What does KennelOS keep track of?
It holds the working records of a breeding program: the animals, the litters they come from, the people who take them home, and the money and obligations attached to both. Everything below ships today.
- Dogs
- Microchip and ANKC numbers, sire and dam, colour, status and photos. Hip and elbow scores, DNA results and every vaccination sit on the animal, not in a folder.
- Litters
- Mating and due dates, whelping notes, birth order and birth weights. External studs are handled properly when the sire is not your dog.
- Puppies
- Every puppy is a record of its own from day one, carrying its own weights, worming, vaccination, microchip number and buyer.
- Buyers
- Enquiry, approval, deposit, offer, match, placement. Calls, emails and texts logged against the person so you can see the whole history before you ring back.
- Money
- Vet fees, food, registration and stud fees against the right litter. Deposits and balances against the right buyer. GST worked out as you go.
- Compliance
- Checklist tasks that resolve from the records above, each one linked to the official source it came from and the date we last checked it.
Eight weeks, and everything that has to happen in them
A litter runs on a clock. KennelOS is built on the same one, so tasks arrive relative to whelping rather than sitting in a list you have to remember to check.
Day 0
Whelping
Birth order, birth weights and whelping notes, recorded while it is still fresh rather than reconstructed a week later.
Week 2
First worming
Recorded per puppy with the product and batch number, so the handover pack is accurate without anyone trying to remember.
Weeks 1 to 8
Weekly weights
One weight per puppy per week. The curve shows a puppy falling off its line well before you would catch it by eye.
Week 6
Vaccination and microchip
The C3 and the individual microchip number land on the puppy record and clear the matching compliance task at the same time.
Week 8
Handover
The sale pack is assembled from records you already entered, not typed out again the night before pickup.
Pedigree and inbreeding, worked out for you
Link a sire and a dam and the pedigree builds itself three generations back, with every ancestor clickable. From that, KennelOS recomputes Wright's pedigree coefficient of inbreeding from the recorded ancestry.
Treat it as pedigree context, not a verdict. The figure is relative to the recorded founders and depth, and KennelOS flags shallow records instead of presenting them as a reassuring zero.
How does the compliance checklist work?
It is a checklist that keeps track of practical tasks and records, tied to the litters and puppies they belong to. Each item links to the official source it came from and shows the date we last reviewed that source. Tasks tick themselves off when the underlying record exists, so the list reflects your actual data rather than your memory.
Coverage is deepest in Victoria. There are 12 Victorian items, every one of them carrying a link to Agriculture Victoria or the Pet Exchange Register, alongside 10 that apply Australia-wide. Every other state and territory currently has one or two starting points rather than a full workflow, because the rules there are mid-reform and we will not seed requirements we cannot stand behind. If you breed outside Victoria, expect a shorter list today and check your own state's requirements directly.

Enquiry to placement, without a message thread
Puppy buyers arrive months before there is a puppy. KennelOS holds them as a real waitlist: approved or not, deposit paid or not, offered, matched, placed. Every call and email is logged against the person, so picking up a conversation from four months ago takes a moment.
What happens after the puppy goes home?
The record stays. Two years on, when an owner rings about a hip score or a littermate, or comes back for a second dog, the history is still there and still attached to the right animal. Most software treats handover as the end of the file. For a breeder it is the start of a much longer relationship.
What is not built yet
- Storing DNA and disease panel certificates against a dog. The health record holds the result today, but the document store does not exist yet.
- A buyer portal. Buyers do not log in, and nothing is shared with them automatically.
- Coat colour prediction, and we have decided against building it. Breed genetics vary enough that a generic tool would be wrong for someone, and being wrong about a breeder’s own dogs is not a mistake worth making.
- Native mobile apps. The web app works on a phone, which is where most of the whelping-box work happens anyway.
